River view ride & Bowman's Hill Tower

So a buddy from NJ was asking if the water on RT32 had receded since the flooding that happened a week or so ago. I decided to take a ride on Saturday to check it out. I wanted to look at the damage and enjoy a ride along the river towards New Hope PA.

Just past Washington Crossing State Park on RT32 / River Road the road was closed due to an out Bridge. This was not due to the storms and flooding though. It's been out for a while. Not sure what the hold up is. Bikes cross it and it is solid all the way across, so I am not really sure what the problems is.

Anyway, I followed the detour around and down Taylorsville Road back towards RT32. It's been years, ok probably 25 years since I have been to Bowman's Hill Tower so I decided to check it out.

The road up the hill to reach the town was pretty rough with lose gravel and pot holes. It's off limits to bicycles, but it didn't say anything about scooters :) Here is a shot in the woods before heading up the hill.

Here are some views from the top of the tower.

Bowman's Hill Tower Statistics

  • Bowman's Hill Tower stands approximately 380 feet above sea level.
  • The Tower itself is 125 feet tall and the base measures 24 square feet.
  • On a clear day, the view from Bowman's Hill Tower encompasses a minimum 14 mile radius of the Delaware River Valley.
  • Begun in September of 1929, Bowmans Hill Tower was completed in June of 1931.
  • The Tower is administered by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission as part of Washington Crossing Historic Park.
I continued my journey into New Hope and had a coffee. The flooding got my favorite French Bakery, C'est la vie. There were cleaning out and rebuilding already. I don't know I could handing dealing with that muddy mess.

I am close to 750 miles on the GTS now. What a scooter!! I love it.
